Let’s go shopping

^^me to you guys right now.

SYDNEY – BLACK DWELL COLLECTION Backpack $170.00

This is a Matt & Nat vegan leather backpack. A problem I usually have with backpacks is that they are either too small or too large for my frame. I end up wearing the same thing for years because I never find something I like… until I find it in which case, the vicious cycle of wearing the same thing for years renews itself!

Weekday Casy Shirt $61.00

I had the long sleeve version of this shirt a few years ago which I’d found in Goodwill. I’m now wishing I hadn’t donated it back into the thrift system! It even looks as though this one’s made with the same fabric– modal, aka artificial silk.

ASOS WHITE Denim Jean With Tie Waistband In Lightblue Wash $83.00
I don’t know if you guys could tell by now, but I love loose-fitting, comfortable clothes. This is why I would wear a sweatpant jean like this one.

ASOS Cold Shoulder Blouse with Shirring & Button Front $49.00
This trumpet sleeve is so cute. I wish the shoulders weren’t cut out but that’s okay. I’ve been looking for a shirt like this one (in black and without the cold shoulders) but it’s difficult to find this type of sleeve. The current sleeve trend is the bell sleeve combined with some off-the-shoulder action.

ASOS Top with Contrast Mesh Insert $25.00

This top is simple and elegant for a night out. It’s perfect for late evening parties in the summer or for going to a bar.

Well, that’s it for now!

Thanks for sharing these random online shopping experiences with me 🙂

How to get clear skin and keep it that way

I had terrible acne growing up. After years of trying different products and health habits, these are my tips for getting rid of acne, based on what worked for me.

Change your diet.

Drink water, cut out dairy, and eat foods rich in anti-oxidants.

  • Water will keep your skin hydrated and help your body flush out toxins that may contribute to acne.
  • Dairy (milk, cheese, ice cream, yogurt, etc.) increases sebum production in the skin leading to clogged pores, which leads to more acne. Cutting out dairy will drive a huge turnaround for your skin.
  • Consuming more antioxidants may reduce skin inflammation which could reduce your acne (Inflammation leads to more acne, antioxidants reduce inflammation). Antioxidants also help keep your skin looking youthful and vibrant.

Change your skincare products.

These are the products that worked for me.

If buying from cruelty-free and vegan brands is something you care about, check out these links:

Don’t know if it’s vegan? Double check the ingredients here.

Don’t know if they test on animals? Check here or here.

Workout.

Working out (and drinking water) increases the blood flow to your skin which helps bring more oxygen to your skin cells which helps excrete cell waste from your skin, leading to clearer skin.

Keep your makeup light and don’t ever wear it to sleep.

Also, try going a few days without makeup during the week. Letting you skin breathe will unclog your pores and increase oxygen circulation to your skin.

Do you have any skincare tips? What’s worked for you and what hasn’t?

Get in, loser, we’re going shopping.

One of the most iconic lines in cult classic movie history (I recently rewatched Mean Girls). OK, Let’s do this.

High Waisted Jeans from ASOS for $53.00

I’ve been searching for a good looking pair of high waisted jeans. These are so perfect; I love the ripped detail on the hem and the tabs on the waist of the jean. The only bad thing about this jean is the color because all of my jeans are black and I’m looking to diversify my wardrobe–my closet and Wednesday Addams have a lot in common these days.

Off-the-shoulder blouse at Zara for $39.90

The volume of off-the-shoulder tops and dresses in stores right now tells me we’ll be seeing this style a lot during the summer. I like how elegant this top looks on the model. I’m not sure I’d be able to pull this off but it’s a gorgeous shirt either way.

T-shirt with embroidered corset at Zara for $39.90

I never thought I’d ever want something that would resemble a corset, but this simple, modern rendition of the corset accompanied with the loose, oversized look of the t-shirt is something I could get into. I would like to see a similar shirt to this one where the corset embroidery has a patterned design, with a pastel color for the shirt/corset (rather than red).

I stumbled upon an interview on YouTube with Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach about their movie, Frances Ha (one of my all time favorites). In it, Greta talks about a book her husband, Noah, recommended for her to read: The Shadow-Line by Joseph Conrad.

In shopping for this book, I found that my local public library has it and Project Gutenberg has published it online. You can read it here for free if you’d like.

Last but not least, the Chelsea Boot. The boot in the photo is the design I’ve been looking for, but the composition and price point are not–it’s 100% calf skin leather with a leather sole– I’m looking for a Chelsea boot that is fake leather (faux leather/ pleather/ vegan); also, this shoe is priced at $895 which is way over what I would ever spend on a shoe. If any of you happen to run across a faux leather Chelsea Boot similar to this slim design, please let me know!

Thanks for reading 🙂

I love the print and oversized fit of this blouse.

Koi Fish Shirt from Zara for $49.90

I found this in the men’s section but I might just buy it for myself. It reminds me of the Miami Marlins and even though I’m not a baseball fan, I like how it reminds me of home.

Hooded Swordfish Print Jacket from Forever21 for $26.99

Screen Shot 2017-02-24 at 1.11.42 PM.png

I’ve thrifted for mom jeans and high-waisted shorts before, but they never quite fit the way I want them to. It might be time to buy brand new jeans.

Mom Jeans from Urban Outfitters for $79

Screen Shot 2017-02-24 at 1.22.49 PM.png

This shirt has a nice bowling-silk pajama-greaser inspired look that I quite enjoy.

Bad Luck Greaser Shirt for Lazy Oaf for $68

I probably won’t buy any of these items. I have a window shopping problem. I’ll fill up my shopping cart with all sorts of things, then close the window and act like none of it ever happened. 😂  I can’t be alone in this. Please comment if you’re a shopping cart deserter like me, or if you like any of the items in this post! Thanks for reading 🙂

My Favorite Vegan Makeup

One of the things that people don’t always realize when they become vegan is how big of a lifestyle change it is. If you’re serious about it, your makeup, clothes, shoes, lotions, perfumes, shampoos, furniture, and more have to be devoid of any animal products/ingredients.

In testing different vegan makeup brands, I’ve had my skin suffer from both allergies and break outs from using bad products. Below are the 4 makeup vegan must-haves that I think anyone would love. They are a little on the pricey side compared to drugstore brands, but they’re well worth saving up for!

bakeshop-11) The Tarte Cosmetics Amazonian Clay Airbrush Foundation is the best powder foundation you can find that will give you full coverage without needing to apply liquid foundation. I have a few acne scars on my skin and it didn’t take much product to cover that up. Huge plus, this powder doesn’t use preservatives. I recommend this product, especially if you have sensitive skin like me.

2) The OFRA Cosmetics Blush/Bronzer. I wasn’t a bronzer/highlighter/ eyeshadow girl until I found this product. I like to apply this to my cheeks and around  my eyes (to give my eyes a brighter look).

Get it here for $35.00

3) The Bellapierre HD Makeup Primer is essential for any makeup collection, vegan or not. One pump on your fingertips is all you need for your makeup to look amazing (and it keeps your makeup on longer).

Get it here for $28.00

4) And last but not least, the Too Faced Melted Matte in the color rouge a levre is gorgeous, long-lasting, and great for a night out. But it’s not a perfect product; if you’re going to eat at a restaurant you’d need to bring it along with you to reapply.
